The Porvoo Group is an international cooperative network of government representatives whose primary goal is to promote a trans-national, interoperable electronic identity, based on PKI technology (Public Key Infrastructure) and electronic ID cards, in order to help ensure secure public and private sector e-transactions in Europe. The Porvoo Group was established in the Finnish city of Porvoo in April 2002 and meets twice a year.

The 12th Porvoo Group meeting is hosted by the City of Grosseto, Tuscany, Italy, and will be held on October 18 and 19, 2007, in the Hotel Fattoria La Principina.

One of the topics of the conference will be the issues of eID interoperability in which Grosseto has been particularly active. This includes the European activities for reaching eID interoperability by 2010 and the possible solutions discussed by governement and industry.

Grosseto is the capital of a characteristic land called Maremma that is located between the sea and hills. It is known for its food, wine, sea resorts, and characteristic landscape.
